The deer holds great spiritual importance in many Indigenous Mexican cultures. The magical deer symbolizes both sustenance from maize and spiritual enlightenment from the peyote cactus. In ancient cultures, the annual shedding and regrowth of the stag's antlers were associated with the cycle of death and rebirth, as well as the renewal of agricultural crops.
